Host Programs

Host Program

The Host Program matches a child or young person with a disability with a host volunteer, who provides care for the child on a regular basis, such as one weekend a month, one day a fortnight or a few hours a each week.

The Host Program provides opportunities for friendship and positive experiences for children with a disability, as well as provides families with a break from their caring role.

Host volunteers may be individuals, couples or families, with or without children, and host the children in their own home or take them out on community outings.

To provide a consistently high quality of service to families, the suitability of prospective host volunteers is stringently assessed. Previous experience in caring for a chlid or young person with a disability is not required as training and ongoing suppot is provided.
